Federal Authorities Report Apprehension in Thwarted New Year's Eve Explosive Plan Outside Southern California

US authorities stated on Monday that they had successfully thwarted a comprehensive plan to set off bombs at multiple locations belonging to two American companies on New Year's Eve in the southern part of the state. The operation resulted from the arrest of people associated with an radical group promoting anti-corporate and anti-establishment views.

Those Arrested Apprehended During Desert Rehearsal

Four people were arrested last Friday in the desert region situated east of Los Angeles while they were allegedly practicing their proposed strike. Officials displayed overhead surveillance video to journalists, which showed the suspects moving a large obscure item to a workspace. Authorities noted that the arrests were made before the individuals could put together a operational bomb.

Details of the Accused Disclosed

According to the filed criminal complaint, the four suspects identified are a 30-year-old named Audrey Illeene Carroll; Page, 32; Gaffield, 24; and Lai, 41. All four are understood to be from the Los Angeles area.

Alleged Motive and Connections

While authorities did not directly outline a rationale, they stated the individuals are part of a faction called the Turtle Island Liberation Front. This organization allegedly urges "workers to rise up and resist against corporate power," based on the legal filing.

They face comprise conspiracy to commit a crime and owning a bomb. The government noted that more accusations are anticipated in the coming weeks.

Elements of the Alleged "Midnight Sun Operation"

Officials stated that one of the suspects had created a step-by-step scheme last month to bomb five or more commercial sites across Southern California on New Year's Eve. The locations were described as "similar to Amazon" distribution centers.

"The plan was specific," a prosecutor remarked. "It included a precise guide to make bombs … and listed numerous objectives across Orange County and Los Angeles."

According to the case and court documents, the scheme entailed planting backpacks packed with intricate explosive devices that were set to be detonated at the same time at midnight on New Year's Eve at several places. New Year's Eve was seen as an perfect time since the document stated "celebratory explosions will be going off at this time so blast noises will be less likely to be detected."

The handwritten, eight-page longhand blueprint, named "OPERATION MIDNIGHT SUN," stated that more sites could be incorporated. The facilities were described as property and facilities run by two distinct firms involved in business involving national and international trade.

Future Plots and Proof Seized

The criminal complaint also indicated that two individuals in the collective had talked about later operations targeting ICE agents personnel and vehicles with explosives in 2026. One individual allegedly noted that such attacks "would eliminate some and frighten the rest of them."

Such discussions were reportedly planned both at an in-person assembly in Los Angeles and through an private communication application.

Pictures contained in the legal filings reveal a desert campsite with what officials said were explosives-manufacturing items scattered on plastic folding tables.

Official documents details that the individuals "all brought IED parts to the campsite, among them various sizes of tubes, identified as a chemical compound, fuel, charcoal powder, powdered sulfur, and components to be used as fuses, among others."

Instructions also had directions on how to build the devices and how to prevent leaving evidence that could be connected back to the group. The accused had in the recent past purchased components and other materials, with acquisitions from online retailers.

Operation and Subsequent Actions

Federal agents moved in last week as the individuals were rehearsing the operation in the desert near Twentynine Palms. "They had every item they required to build an functional IED at that location," the prosecutor stated.

During executed searches, officials reportedly discovered signs for the Turtle Island Liberation Front at one suspect's residence that called for "Down with America", and "Eliminate ICE". At another suspect's home, police located a copy of the detailed bomb plan.

The suspects were detained peacefully. They were set to appear in court in Los Angeles on Monday afternoon.
